The University, originally established as Andhra Pradesh Open University on 26th August 1982 through an Act of the A.P. State Legislature (APOU Act 1982), was later renamed Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University on 26th October 1991 by the Government of Andhra Pradesh. As the first university of its kind in India, it marked a significant step toward providing higher education opportunities to all sections of society, reflecting the Government’s commitment to affirmative action and social development.
All programs offered by the University are recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, ensuring quality and credibility. The motto of the University, “EDUCATION FOR ALL,” embodies its dedication to inclusive and accessible education for every learner.
